Busted!!!
Mischief
Waters out
Last week we the water line to our subdivision hit during construction and were without water for about 19 hours. Of course in that time, EVERYONE decided it was time to poop and we couldn't flush. Good times.
When it came back on, they opened the fire hydrant in front of our house and Hunter and the neighbor kids couldn't resist, as you can tell.

5 week stats
At her appt yesterday, Ellorie weighed in at 9lbs and 22 inches long. She is in about the 40% for weight and 75% for length. Another long, lean Conkey baby! Just the way I like'em!

Houston...we have a problem
My plan was to take away Hunter's paci after our trip to the beach next week. That plan got shot to crap on Saturday. He was fussy and tired and couldn't find his own paci so he walked up to Ellorie and snatched hers right out of her mouth with no qualms about thieving it. She however was also tired and fussy and did NOT appreciate having her paci stolen. She made that absolutely clear when she voiced her deep dislike in some harshly toned screaming. I guess I shouldn't worry about it. It seems like a big deal right now, but in the big picture of his life, when I take away his paci isn't a big deal. I keep reminding myself that it could be worse. Some people (like me) turn to food for comfort, some people smoke, some people drink, I think a paci is the least of my concerns.

One month old
One month old. You are a great nurser now, but I still make you take a bottle a day just so you can. You like your paci, but aren't hooked. You are covered in baby acne, but we love you anyway. You love to be swaddled tight and held even tighter and want me to pat your butt to fall asleep. You are a joy.

Each of my kids...
Each of my kids reminds me of some natural beauty.

Hunter is my hurricane. He leaves a mess in his wake. Just kidding (kinda!) He is powerful and awe inspiring, strong and beautiful, full of energy and he leaves you with a greater appreciation of what you have.

Ellorie is my gentle breeze. She is soft, a whisper of a girl. She is already very content and really only fusses to let me know she needs something. She is calming and holding her on my chest, next to my heart, she is peaceful.

Austin is my sunshine. He is bright and cheerful and draws people to him. He is like the sun, he gives light and joy to all those around him. He also has a silent strength from within and if you get too close, you just might get burned. He is a source of life to me each day.

Savannah is my rainbow. She came to me after trying for what seemed like forever to have her, much like a rainbow after the storm. A reminder that good things come to those who wait. She bring a smile to your face and a laugh to your heart. She is feminine and strong, with a will to be herself and do things her way.

Mothers Day

If you give a mom a muffin
If you give a mom a muffin, she'll want a cup0 of coffee to go with it.
She'll pour herself some. The coffee will get spilled by her three year old and she'll wipe it up.
Wiping the floor, she will find some dirty socks.
She'll remember she has to do some laundry. When she puts the laundry in the washer, she'll trip over some snow boots and bump into the freezer.
Bumping into the freezer will remind her she has to plan supper for tonight.
She will get out a pound of hamburger.
She'll look for her cookbook, 101 Things to do with a Pound of Hamburger .
The cookbook is sitting under a pile of mail.
She will see the phone bill, which is due tomorrow.
She will look for her checkbook.
The checkbook is in her purse that is being dumped out by her two year old.
She'll smell something funny. She'll change the two year old. While she is changing the two year old the phone will ring, of course.
Her five year old will answer it and hang up.
She remembers that she wants to phone a friend to come over for coffee on Friday.
Thinking about a cup of coffee will remind her that she was going to have a cup.
She will pour herself some.
And chances are, if she has a cup of coffee, her kids will have eaten the muffin that went with it.
Happy Mother's Day to all my friends!

for posterity
9/11 will be imprinted in my mind forever. The images on tv, the sounds, the fear, the pride we felt as we banded together and swore to Never Forget.
It was the first time I had ever called in sick to work. I woke that morning at 7am, felt like crap, called work and said I wouldn't be coming in. I was still having morning sickness from Austin and just wanted a day off. I turned on the Today show just in time to see Katie Couric say, " a plane has just flown into the World Trade Center." My whole world changed in that moment. My bubble of safety was forever popped as I braced myself to raise my children in a whole new world.
I couldn't peel my eyes from the tv. I called my family, and said countless prayers that day.
Today I talked to my kids about 9/11 and was able to say that the man behind the attack, Osama Bin Laden, had been killed by American forces. Our troops had been hunting him down for over 15 years and finally, our hard work resulted in his death. I would never say I am happy that he is dead, but I am celebrating a world with one less hatefilled monster. He will get his due justice at the hands of God.
Today I just wanted to document for posterity my thoughts and pride as an American, my gratitude for our armed forces and for their families who sacrifice so much each day to ensure our safety. God bless our troops and their families.
